Valliammai Engineering College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, was established on September 9, 1999. It is one of the prestigious institution under Anna University. The college functions from a ten – storey building complex of 29,000 square metres to accommodate the demands of students. The Valliammai Engineering College is a part of the SRM Group of Educational Institutions, sponsored by the Valliammai Society. The Valliammai Society was founded by Thiru. T. R. Pachamuthu, a well-known educationalist, in the name of his mother Tmt. R.Valliammai. The Institution is certified with ISO 9001:2000[1] from Bureau Veritas Quality International.
The college is situated by the side of NH 45, between Tambaram and Chengalpattu.
The college was ranked among the top engineering colleges in India graded AA+, by Careers 360 magazine.[1]
The department of Computer Science and Engineering came into existence from the very inception of the college. Initially, the annual intake was 60. In tune with the growing demand profile globally for CSE, the intake level was enhanced to 120 in the year 2000–2001 and onwards. The department laboratory is equipped with Hi-tech computers and is known to impart practical education to all of its students. Computer Science Department has a good track record in academics as well as in placements.
While the First year Core Curriculum begins, with a common knowledge Base and customizes Students, by grounding in basic Engineering Foundation and in Critical hands-on skills in Engineering Practices, the Course has access to enhance the Learning, student Perspective and Experience to develop specialization in areas of IT. Class room learning is complemented by Practicals in Hi-Tech Labs, Projects and Hands on Experiences, so as to foster Knowledge in 'IT and Computer Applications'.As of today, the College has emerged as an Institution, imparting Quality Engineering Education and making contributions to 'hi-tech Industries', by producing IT Graduates, with Professionalism and right Attitude; the very first batch passed out in June, 2003. Initially, the annual intake was 60. In tune with the growing demand profile globally for IT, the intake level was enhanced to 120 in the recent years.

While the First year Core Curriculum begins with a common knowledge Base and customizes Students by grounding in basic Engineering Foundation and in Critical Hands on Skills in Engineering Practices, the Course has access to enhance the Learning, Student Perspective and Experience to develop Specialization in areas of 'Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering'. The Department of Mechanical is functioning from the inception of the college to impart quality education to undergraduate engineering students in the field of mechanical. The course curriculum is periodically upgraded to suit the requirements of different engineering depends as per the affiliated to Anna University.
The Department of Civil is functioning from the inception of the college to impart quality education to undergraduate engineering students in the field of Civil. The course curriculum is periodically upgraded to suit the requirements of different engineering depends as per the affiliated to Anna University.
In order to meet the wide ranging, challenging and growing demands for professional Managers, in the recent times, from both the developing and the developed Nations, the Department of "Management Studies" was established in the year 2005, in the College, as an exclusive Department and as a separate entity.
In order to meet the ever growing and wide ranging hi-tech Industrial demands in the current decade, particularly in the 'IT' related areas and in the computer aided applications, our Institution had planned to commence this specialized master's program, MCA, in the year 2002.
The Dept.of Placement and Career Guidance works with much gusto in seeking and sequencing campus interviews for the students. The department caters to hone the students communication and interview skills. Each campus interview creates a ripple effect on the growth of placement.

This college is administrated by team of academicians and professionals. The college administration is assisted by Thiru. P. Ravi as the Co.chairman, Prof. P. Sathyanarayanan as vice-chairman, Tmt. Eswari Pachamuthu as the Treasurer and Dr.V.R. Sivakumar as Secretary under the guidance of Founder and Chairman Thiru T. R. Pachamuthu.
The college has been established in 27.5 acres (111,000 m2) in 25000 sqm built-up areas to accommodate the classes and 33 laboratories in 5061 sqm in a environment easily accessible by road and rail with fully modernized equipments and 763 computers to train the students to cater to the present job requirements. It offers courses in electronics and communication engineering, Computer science and engineering, Electrical and electronics engineering, Electronics and instrumentation engineering and Information technology at the under graduate level and MCA, MBA at the postgraduate level with 600 intake. 150 teaching staff is on role and 1821 students are pursuing their studies.

The Valliammai Society runs several educational institutions under the S.R.M.(Sri Ramasamy Memorial) Group, named after his father, Thiru.Ramasamy. Thiru.Pachamuthu, the Chairman, S.R.M. Group of Institutions, beginning his career as a teacher, now serves the community as a Chancellor, dedicating his life to the cause of education.Thiru. Pachamuthu, Chairman of the Valliammai Society is assisted by Thiru.P.Ravi as the Co-Chairman, Thiru P.Sathyanarayanan as the Vice-Chairman, Dr.R.Shivakumar as the Secretary and Tmt. Easwari Pachamuthu as the Treasurer of the Society. The Valliammai Society commenced its educational activities with a humble beginning in 1969 by starting a Primary School in the name of Florence Nightingale and upgrading the same to the status of Matriculation Higher Secondary School in the year 1981. In 1984, S.R.M. ventured into higher education with the launch of the Valliammai Polytechnic. The year 1985 saw the birth of the S.R.M. Engineering College, one of the most prestigious Institutions in Engineering and Technology and also the flagship Institutions of the group, encompassing all disciplines of Technical Education.
During 1992-93 the S.R.M. Group ventured into Medical Education and started S.R.M. College of Nursing and S.R.M. College of Pharmacy . During 1993-94 two more Medical Institutions namely S.R.M. School of Nursing and S.R.M. College of Physiotherapy were added. During the same year, the Group entered into Hotel Management Education. The S.R.M. Institute of Hotel Management was started in 1993 , having two campuses, one at Chennai and the other at Tiruchirapalli . The greatest advantage that this Institution offers to its students is the benefit of a deluxe.
Star Hotel attached to each campus of this Institute. During 1993-94 S.R.M. Arts & Science College was added to the S.R.M. Groups of Institutions. In 1995, the Group launched the S.R.M. Dental College with a full-fledged Dental Hospital attached to the College. In 1996 the Valliammai Polytechnic received the much-needed relief with the launch of a sister Institution, the S.R.M. Polytechnic. During 1996-97 Thiru. Pachamuthu opened another Engineering College in the name of his wife and called it as Easwari Engineering College. In the same year S.R.M. College of Occupational Therapy was added to the Group of Medical Educational Institutions. During 1997-98 the group made an entry into North India with the launch of the S.R.M. Institute of Management and Technology in Delhi. In 1999 the Valliammai Society added a third Engineering College in the name of Valliammai Engineering College to the S.R.M. Group of Institutions.

Students are encouraged to participate and excel in sports. Playground and Equipment for outdoors and indoor games facilities are available for meeting the enthusiasm of such students and faculty.
Men and women vie with each other to participate in games like Cricket, Foot ball, Hockey, Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, Table Tennis, Ball-Badminton, Badminton, Chess, Throw Ball, etc. and in various athletic events. Students of this college have achieved remarkable feats as Winners and Runners-up ranging from the Inter-collegiate to University level in games and athletic events and have retained the championship in the University Division. Every year, we celebrate “Award Day” function for honoring the best sports students.
Many students have won medals and cash prizes at Anna University and Zonal and Inter-Zonal levels and State level trounaments in Throw Ball, Volley Ball, Basketball, Table Tennis, Chess, Boxing, Swimming, Judo, Kabbadi and Foot Ball.
